Classes started today at BJU with a bang (for me anyways). Let me give you a quick rundown of my classes for this semester:
- Church Music Administration
- History of Music I
- Elements of Conducting
- Private Classical Piano & Hymn Playing lessons
- Bible Doctrines
- Intermediate Spanish II
We also had our first rehearsal for Concert Choir/Chorale for our October 19th concert today. Mark your calendars now; it’s gonna be good! We will be doing at least 4 pieces by Dan Forrest who is back at BJU now after getting his doctorate at KU (Kansas University). Some titles include “Three Nocturnes” for Choir and Percussion, “You are the Music”, “Arise, Shine!” (Premiered in Carnegie Hall), and “Oread Farewell” (which as I learned is pronounce ORE-ee-add) with text by Anthony Silvestri. That’s some powerful music!
Update: We may or may not be doing all four of those pieces. See comments…
This week also marks the beginning of Society Rush. In fact, I’m going to head out to the Epsilon Zeta Chi rush booth now and try to start some conversations with the new freshmen. More later!

Late last week I ordered an external hard drive from NewEgg. A Western Digital My Book Essential 320GB model to be exact. It came in the mail today and I took it for a short spin. I found out that the formatted volume is more like 300GB, but I think that will suffice.
Last week I was informed of a web design scholarship by CollegeScholarships.org. They were awarding $5,000 in college scholarship money to the best WordPress theme that was submitted for use on their new blog - NewScholarships.org. Supposedly, the participation level was low, so I took a whack at it. Got nothing to lose, right? Turns out I didn’t win (boo-hoo), but there’s no way I could have competed with the winning design. It was really good.
In other news, I return to school again this Friday (ack! where did summer go?). Classes start on Wednesday the 29th. I’ve got a few things to look forward to, though.
- Singing in the Concert Choir and doing a joint concert with Chorale.
- Possibly my junior recital…
- My first real Church Music classes.
- Being an APC.
- Who knows what else…
I’d hate to end a post on such a sad note, so let’s try this… Our family took a 3 day weekend trip to Washington, DC August 9-11. Here’s a few pictures that I took on my camera phone. Despite it being a 1 megapixel cell phone camera, these photos actually turned out rather nice.

w00t! Yes, we’re left handed and proud of it!
Here’s an excerpt from www.lefthandersday.com:
… left-handers [are] more likely than right handers to be creative and visual thinkers. This is supported by higher percentages of left-handers than normal in certain jobs and professions - music and the arts, media in general. Left-handers are also generally better at 3-dimensional perception and thinking, leading, for example, to more left-handed architects than normal. Left-handers are also usually pretty good at most ball sports and things involving hand-to-eye co-ordination.
You know you wish you were a lefty. Admit it. You do, don’t you?
